Pie Design is a small shop that staffs some of New York’s top design and animation talent to fit the project at hand with Dale Robbins at the helm. As Creative Director for Moyers & Company, a weekly series of interviews with great American thinkers, Dale created the on-air package and identity, and provided art direction for the set and the website. She also photographed the guests on set for editorial and promotional needs. Dale directed the weekly communication graphics needed to tell the stories: typography, imagery, maps, data, and photography. Much of this recent work is featured here.

Pie's work with Bill Moyers' production company includes: Bill Moyers Journal, the Emmy-winning weekly news magazine NOW with Bill Moyers, as well as Bill Moyers on Faith & Reason, a popular series of interviews with authors such as Salman Rushdie, Margaret Atwood and Martin Amis. Pie Design has worked on several feature length documentaries for Mr. Moyers’ production company: Bill Moyers Reports: Earth on Edge – a global report card, examining the health of five ecosystems around the world; America’s First River: Bill Moyers on the Hudson – a look at the Hudson’s role in American history and the inspiring grass roots environmental movement that reclaimed the river centuries later. Pie also designed the title opening for Becoming American: The Chinese Experience; a three part documentary which aired on PBS.

Dale’s work outside of PBS is diverse. She art directed and designed What’s News?, a video installation about the freedom of speech for the Newseum in Washington DC. Other installation projects include a life-sized interactive piece for the NBA Store, a hi-def demo for Mitsubishi, an in-store video for Levis, and an exhibit installation for The New York Stock Exchange.

Pie’s background in sports is extensive as well. Notably, interactive design and packaging for VXP Baseball Trading Cards, art direction/design for the launch of ESPN2, and art direction for NBC Sports Barcelona Olympics. For SkyBox Trading Cards, Pie functioned as the art department for the National Basketball Association to launch and produce a line of trading cards. Dale’s interest in designing for sports began with design for a series opener for the Boston Red Sox (her home team).
